In 12 step programs the slogan 'don't quite 5 minutes before the miracle' gives person the hope and incentive to not quit, give up believing or trusting ro giving in to a craving or desire once healing has begun. Slipping is a moment, day or two usage of a substance or behaviour after long time abstinence. Relapse is the continuation of indulging into the substance and behavior non stop, becoming destructive to the mind, body and spirit. Recovery is a process; we need to show up at meetings, be patient, listen to others share their own experience to give strength and hope to the alcoholic or addict to identify they are not alone. Holidays can be more challenging with the festivities as a family holiday and make us feel we do not belong, fit in or get approval. The disease of addiction and alcoholism does not know economic status, education, wealth, poverty or race. We are only hurting ourselves if we don't take the action.
